Diet! - Week Nine

After hitting a low of 311 last week, I never saw the scale tell me less than 313 this week. It’s getting difficult not to feel discouraged by this. I have lowered my weight watchers daily allowance points from 68 to 65, hoping to get myself under 310. I really wanted to get to 308 this week, but my body is fighting me on this. On a plus note, this is the first week that I never got a result higher than 315, so that could be looked at as a sign of progress. But, a gain week is obviously not a good thing when you’re dieting. I’m trying to maintain my zen outlook, but it’s not easy right now. Part of me would really like to throw my scale at a wall really hard and scream “FUCK!” at the top of my lungs. But if I do that, the next thing I know I’ll be eating a large meat-lovers pizza and pounding back bottle after bottle of root beer. I’m not going to let that happen. I’m going to calm my shit, divest myself of emotion and re-focus on my task.

OVERALL WEIGHT LOST: 19 pounds.

WEIGHT LOST THIS WEEK: +2.

In your older videos, you talked about your, at the time, 98-99 year old grandma. Is she still alive, and how is she doing?

The Thing About The Thing

Something I always wondered about John Carpenter’s movie The Thing (1982) is when the thing eats you and replicates you, including your memories, does the copy of you consciously know that it’s the thing? This was never clear.

The obvious answer would seem to be yes, since the creature would attack when it’s charade was threatened, but I’m not so certain. What if the attack is a wholly unconscious act?

Imagine it: you’re sitting there with your friends, scared shitless that one or more of them is a monster. And you don’t have any idea that the real you died 45 minutes ago and that you’re now just a replica created by an alien organism as a clever disguise.

I find that idea more chilling.

I watched the entire debate, and I think you did a fantastic job. You should do more of them! It seems like the logical next step for you. On a related note, not saying that he can be replaced, but I consider you to be sort of a spiritual successor to the late Christopher Hitchens. You're a great man, and you've really helped me out in a lot of ways recently. I can't thank you enough.

I just don’t have the ferocity of someone like Hitchens. Like, tonight, I could have been a total asshole, but it’s just not in me. I’ll be tough on some issues, but I let a lot of stupid shit slide. I don’t have the time or the inclination to massacre people the way Hitchens did. Also, I definitely don’t feel as if I’m anywhere near Hitch’s intellectual equal.

The abortion scenario you brought up in the polipop debate resembles one from Julian Baginni's The Pig that wants be Eaten. Have you read this book?
